One of the most common items found in any building is hinges on doors, cabinets, windows, appliances, and cases. In recent years, there have been extraordinary leaps forward in hinge technology with the development of the carbon fiber hinge. Unlike metal hinges with wings joined by a pin, these uniquely designed hinges are made from carbon fabric that is joined at the flex point by carbon Kevlar. Read More…

Carbon Fiber Hinge Manufacturers List
The biggest advantage of carbon fiber hinges is their durability, regardless of their size. Hinges that have wings with a thickness of 0.08 mm, or 1/32nd of an inch, can withstand loads of 120 kg, or 264 lbs. Aside from their exceptional load capacity, they are chemical, rust, and corrosion resistant and have a high temperature tolerance.
Processed steel is one of the strongest metals and is widely used in multiple applications for its endurance. Carbon fiber hinges match the strength of steel with five times its strength.
The manufacture of carbon fiber is partly chemistry and partly machining. The first step in the process is to remove any elements in carbon threads that are not carbon. To accomplish this, carbon fibers are heated in an oxygen free enclosure. This procedure enhances the strength of the fibers and makes them more tightly woven. For added endurance and protection, the carbon fibers are coated before they are wound or woven.
A key to the strength of carbon fiber hinges is their carbon Kevlar flex unit that connects the wings and allows them to open 180o. Carbon Kevlar is a synthetic fiber that is heat resistant, sturdy, and exceptionally strong. It will not rust or corrode. It is made through the use of a polymerization process and has the same strength, heat resistance, and durability as carbon fiber.
Carbon fiber hinges are made from molded fiber with prepreg wings and a gap between them. The wings are woven carbon fiber with an epoxy laminate. The flex unit is made of woven carbon Kevlar that has a urethane base. There is an endless variety of carbon fiber hinges that vary from exceptionally small to ones large enough to hold a heavy manufacturing door.
The carbon Kevlar flex unit can be a single unit for light uses or have multiple layers for heavy duty stressful uses.
